WHO warns Gaza's Kamal Adwan hospital in 'appalling' conditions amid Israeli attacks

The World Health Organization (WHO) has described conditions at the Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza as "appalling" as the medical facility has come under incessant Israeli attacks.

In an X post on Monday, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said a humanitarian team had finally reached the hospital at the weekend after it was denied access to the facility by Israeli authorities four times over the past week.

The team, he added, delivered fuel, food and medicines to the hospital, situated in Beit Lahia, amid "hostilities and explosions" in its vicinity.

Latest attacks by the Israeli military have "further damaged the oxygen supply, generators, and broken windows and doors of the patients' rooms," Ghebreyesus added.

"The conditions in the hospital are simply appalling. We urge for the protection of health care and for this hell to stop! Ceasefire!"

Two months ago, Israel intensified its attacks in the northern Gaza Strip, cut the area off from the rest of the territory, and blocked nearly all humanitarian aid from entering the region.

Dr Hussam Abu Safiya, director of the Kamal Adwan hospital, said the Israeli military has fired on the facility on a daily basis, and raided the medical center at least six times since early October.

Earlier reports said quadcopter drones had dropped at least 10 bombs on the hospital, where over 50 injured people, including those in intensive care, are in need of help.

Meanwhile, the Quds News Network reported that the hospital’s power has been cut off as a result of the repeated Israeli attacks.

Israel unleashed its genocidal war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, after the Palestinian Hamas resistance group carried out a historic operation against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

So far, the Tel Aviv regime has killed at least 45,028 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 106,962 others.

Israel has targeted hospitals in its bloody onslaught, damaging or destroying Gaza’s most important healthcare centers in blatant violation of the international law and considered to be a war crime.
