The Western governments’ unreserved support for the Israeli regime’s atrocities against Palestinians has rather backfired by bolstering the regional resistance in the face of the occupying entity, says a scholar.

Amal Saad, a Lebanese lecturer in politics at Cardiff University, who specializes in the affairs of the regional Axis of Resistance, made the remarks in a series of posts on the X social medial platform on Wednesday.

“Far from protecting Israel or ensuring its longevity, their (the Western governments’) unqualified support has instead ushered in a new, formidable resistance paradigm across the Middle East,” she noted.

“The Western-backed Israeli aggression has fostered and fueled the growth of the Resistance Axis in ways Israel alone could never have achieved, solidifying bonds between its members while enhancing their collective military capabilities and expanding their regional influence,” the scholar remarked.

The support has seen the Western states throwing unbridled political, military, and intelligence support behind the regime’s October-present war on the Gaza Strip and its more than a week of escalated deadly attacks across the occupied West Bank.

Gaza’s resistance movements, Hamas and the Islamic Jihad, have been facing the aggression against the coastal sliver upfront. Their representatives and fellow resistance groups in the West Bank have also been confronting the aggression against the occupied territory in a decisive and concerted manner.

Resistance groups across the rest of the region, namely those hailing from Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen, have, meanwhile, been staging numerous operations against the occupied Palestinian territories in support of the war-hit Gazans and their fellow Palestinians in the West Bank.

The Western-backed Israeli aggression has, therefore, rather helped “alter the regional balance of power and unintentionally jeopardize Israel's long-term viability as a settler-colonial entity,” Saad concluded.
