The Israeli military has announced the deaths of two more of its forces in the Gaza Strip as Palestinian resistance fighters press ahead with their retaliatory operations amid the months-long Israeli genocidal war.
The military reported the deaths on Sunday, identifying one fatality as a “staff sergeant” and the other as a “master sergeant.”
The two died respectively in the city of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza and Gaza City as a result of detonation of explosive devices, it added.
The deaths brought to 702 the number of Israeli troopers confirmed dead, since the regime began its onslaught on the Palestinian territory in October 2023.
According to the military, the deaths took to 340 the total number of the Israeli forces who have been killed in the coastal sliver since the onset of the war that was launched in response to al-Aqsa Storm, a retaliatory operation staged by Gaza’s resistance groups.
The regime’s tallies also show that another 362 troopers died during the same period partly as a result of retaliatory operations by the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah against intensified Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon.
Also on Sunday, funerals were held in the occupied Palestinian territories for six forces, who had died as a result of operations carried out by the Palestinian and Lebanese resistance groups, Israeli media outlets reported.
Observers, however, say the regime underreports the fatalities to retain the morale of its forces and restrain backlash from those demanding a ceasefire that could enable the return of those who were taken captive during al-Aqsa Storm.
‘A crushing blow’
Meanwhile, al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Gaza-based resistance movement Hamas, announced delivering a strong blow to Israeli forces during an ambush against them in the town of al-Qarara near Khan Yunis on Monday.
The brigade’s fighters targeted a home occupied by forces with anti-fortification thermobaric grenade (TBG) and anti-personnel rocket, besides detonating the explosives planted at the entrance to a tunnel that was being approached by some other troops.
More than 40,400 Palestinians have been killed so far during the brutal Israeli military onslaught against Gaza.
The regime’s aggression against Lebanon has also claimed the lives of more than 500 people.
Hell-bent on continuing the unabated aggression, Tel Aviv has been refusing to sign a truce deal that could end the onslaught on Gaza, while threatening to expand its attacks on Lebanon.
