Iran interim FM praises ‘positive’ ties with Qatar, underlines good neighbor policy
Iran's Interim Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani has praised growing political and economic relations between Iran and Qatar as he underlines the Islamic Republic’s strategic policy of consolidating ties with neighboring countries.
Bagheri Kani made the remark in a meeting with Qatar’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in the capital Doha late on Wednesday.
Bagheri Kani said the visit of a high-ranking Qatari delegation to Tehran to pay tribute to late president Ebrahim Raeisi and to offer condolences to the Iranian government and nations was a sign of sympathy and indicative of deep bonds between the two countries.
Describing as positive Iran-Qatar relations in various political and economic fields and their regional cooperation, the top diplomat praised the effective role of Raeisi and late foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in establishing long-term and stable relations between the two countries.
Underscoring the strategic policy of Iran in strengthening relations with its neighbors, Bagheri Kani said, “Today, the neighborliness policy of Raeisi's government has become the rallying call of all parties that seek security and sustainable development. Therefore, without doubt, this strategic priority of the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue with no interruption.”
Pointing to the Israeli regime’s months-long onslaught on the Gaza Strip, he said, “The regional situation and the interests of the regional nations necessitate using all capacities for ending the genocide in Gaza and supporting the oppressed Gazans.”
The Qatari foreign minister, who is also prime minister, paid tribute to the late Iranian president and foreign minister, who passed away in a helicopter crash on May 19, as he hailed their role in the promotion of Doha-Tehran ties and in supporting Palestine.
Touching on the latest developments in the region and Palestine and the course of events in Gaza, Abdulrahman Al Thani assessed the ongoing situation as “very dangerous” and emphasized the necessity of continuing consultations between Iran and Qatar in order to contribute to the stability and security of the region.
Israel unleashed a genocidal war on Gaza on October 7, which has so far killed at least 37,396 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 85,523 others.
