Iran’s steel production rose slightly in November as the country became the seventh-largest supplier of the metal in the world over the month.
Figures by the World Steel Association (worldsteel) cited in a Saturday report by Iran’s state-run metals company IMIDRO showed that the country’s steel output had reached 3.1 million metric tons (mt) in November, up just 0.1% from the same month last year.
The increase came as global steel output rose significantly in November as production reached 146.8 million mt, up 8% from the same month last year.
Iran’s steel production in January-November reached a total of 28 million mt, an increase of 0.5% from the same previous period, worldsteel figures showed.
Iran was the 10th largest supplier of steel in the world in January-November after Brazil which produced 32.5 million mt of steel, the figures showed.
The rise in Iran’s 11-month steel production came despite a fall in the global output as major steel producers of the world churned out some 1.694 billion mt of the metal over the period, down 1.4% from January-November 2023.
The figures showed that China remained the world’s largest steel producer in the 11 months to November with some 929 million mt of output, down 2.7% from the same period last year.
The second largest supplier India reported a 5.9% rise in output at 136 million mt as did the seventh and eighth largest producers Germany and Turkey at 34.5 million mt and 33.9 million mt, up 5.3% and 11.2%, respectively, from January-November last year, the data showed.
