Iran’s November steel output at 3.1 mln mt, world’s 7th largest

Worldsteel data show Iran’s steel production rose slightly year on year in November to 3.1 million mt.

Iran’s steel production rose slightly in November as the country became the seventh-largest supplier of the metal in the world over the month.

Figures by the World Steel Association (worldsteel) cited in a Saturday report by Iran’s state-run metals company IMIDRO showed that the country’s steel output had reached 3.1 million metric tons (mt) in November, up just 0.1% from the same month last year.

The increase came as global steel output rose significantly in November as production reached 146.8 million mt, up 8% from the same month last year.

Iran’s steel production in January-November reached a total of 28 million mt, an increase of 0.5% from the same previous period, worldsteel figures showed.

Iran was the 10th largest supplier of steel in the world in January-November after Brazil which produced 32.5 million mt of steel, the figures showed.

The rise in Iran’s 11-month steel production came despite a fall in the global output as major steel producers of the world churned out some 1.694 billion mt of the metal over the period, down 1.4% from January-November 2023.

The figures showed that China remained the world’s largest steel producer in the 11 months to November with some 929 million mt of output, down 2.7% from the same period last year.

The second largest supplier India reported a 5.9% rise in output at 136 million mt as did the seventh and eighth largest producers Germany and Turkey at 34.5 million mt and 33.9 million mt, up 5.3% and 11.2%, respectively, from January-November last year, the data showed.
