Al Aqsa separation

Palestinian resistance groups have warned that a plan for dividing al-Aqsa Mosque is considered as a declaration of war. A number of Palestinian groups warn that they will hold the Israeli regime accountable for the repercussions of implementing such a plan. The groups cautioned that the Palestinian nation and resistance will never accept such aggression, even at the price of self-sacrifice. A member of the Israeli Knesset from the Likud party has suggested a plan to split up the mosque complex between Jews and Muslims. Amit Halevi's plan would split the 37-acre complex, leaving Muslims with the southern end and the rest for settlers. He has also suggested Jordan's authority and control over Al-Aqsa be removed. The proposal comes following the recent clashes between settlers and Palestinians at the mosque.

Trump in hot water

There seems to be no end in sight for the legal woes facing former US president Donald Trump. He has now been indicted by a grand jury over his handling of classified documents after leaving the White House. Trump’s attorney says his client has been charged with seven counts including obstruction of justice, conspiracy and false statements. The charges are brought against Trump as the Justice Department has been probing whether the classified material was mishandled. The former president says he has been summoned to appear at a Miami federal courthouse on Tuesday. He has denied any wrongdoing, describing the indictment as warfare of the law. Trump was also indicted in March over a hush money payment to a former adult movie actress. He is also facing a separate federal probe into his alleged role in the 2021 attack on the Capitol by his supporters. The latest indictment has once again raised questions about his eligibility to run in the next presidential election as he’s determined to regain the post.

ASEAN military drill

The bloc of ten Southeast Asian countries, ASEAN, is set to hold its first joint military drill off Indonesia’s territorial waters. Indonesia’s top military official says the multilateral security exercise aims to strengthen the centrality of the bloc. He noted that the maneuvers are related to what he called “high risk of disaster in Asia”. The announcement was made after a meeting of the ASEAN military commanders in Indonesia. The drill, scheduled to be held in September, will not include combat operations training. It will be held in the southernmost waters of the South China Sea where the US military frequently holds joint exercises with its Asian allies. Regional countries have repeatedly condemned the US maneuvers that they argue would undermine regional security.
