Team Iran have ended up second in 2022 Volleyball World Championship Pool F after succumbing to a 3-1 defeat against the Netherlands.
Behrouz Ataei’s men fell behind early in the opening set and never recovered to go down 25-22. They managed to rally from a 3-point deficit to take the second 25-21, but couldn’t carry the momentum into the third and gave it away 25-20.
They seemed to be on course to send the match to a decider when they were up by 7 points at 13-6 in the 4th.
But instead in a sudden change of events they eventually found themselves on the wrong end of a 25-18 rout. Despite the defeat Iran still advance into the last 16, but as pool F’s runners-up behind the Netherlands.
