Former Iranian boxing champion and manager of the Iran men’s national boxing team, Hassan Bashtbavi, has passed away at the age of 92.
The father of Iran's boxing died in southwestern Iranian town of Gachsaran, situated approximately 929 kilometers (577 miles) southwest of the capital Tehran, late on Monday. He was laid to rest on Wednesday.
Bashtbavi was born in the oil-rich southwestern Iranian city of Abadan in 1927, and started classic boxing at the age of 17.
He finished as the vice champion of Iran’s national boxing championships in 1949.
Bashtbavi coached the Iran men’s national boxing team between 1972 and 1975. The squad claimed the first place overall at the 1974 Asian Games, which were held from September 1 to September 16, 1974, in Tehran, Iran.
