Iran boxer snatches bronze medal in Turkey event

Iranian super heavyweight boxer Pouriya Amiri has collected a bronze medal at the 30th edition of the International Youth Men Ahmet Comert Boxing Tournament in Istanbul, Turkey.

Amiri received a bye in the preliminary round of the men’s over 91-kilogram bouts at the Ahmet Comert sport hall in Atakoy neighborhood of Istanbul’s Bakirkoy district.

He overwhelmed Hungary’s János Bogáncs in the quarterfinals, before conceding defeat to Turkish opponent Sedat Yildiz in a semi-final competition and settling for the bronze.

The 30th edition of International Youth Men Ahmet Comert Boxing Tournament opened in Istanbul, Turkey, on October 19, and will finish on October 25.

The tournament has brought together a total of 154 boxers from 14 countries, including Azerbaijan, Georgia, Hungary, Iran, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Turkey and Uzbekistan.

Ahmet Comert (1926–1990) was a Turkish amateur boxer, coach, referee, judge and sports official. He served in the executive committee of the International Boxing Association (AIBA).

He died of apparent heart failure, while on duty during the 1990 European Junior Boxing Championship in the Czechoslovakia.
