The Iranian men’s national basketball B team has sustained its first loss at the 2017 William Jones Cup in Taiwan, slumping to the Lithuanian side.
On Saturday, the Iranian squad went down to the European side 84-90 in a match staged at Taipei Peace International Basketball Hall in New Taipei City.
The Lithuanian basketball players opened the match in a better fashion, and chalked up most of the points throughout the first quarter, and eventually took the quarter by 26 points to 19.
The Iranian sportsmen came from behind after the break and managed to establish their control. They claimed the second quarter 20-19.
The Persian maintained the momentum as the game went into the third quarter and kept the lead. They did not capitulate in the face of their Lithuanian rivals, and finally grabbed a 22-21 win.
Even though Iranian basketball players tried hard to seal the victory, they were just unsuccessful and their opponents emerged victorious 20-19 at the end of the final quarter.
The Iranian men’s national basketball B team is scheduled to face off with Republic of China White on Sunday.
The 2017 William Jones Cup started in Taiwan on July 15 and will run until July 23. The event is a top-level international basketball tournament of FIBA Asia.
