The Iran men's national under-19 basketball team has suffered its second defeat at the preliminary round of the Fédération Internationale de Basket-ball (FIBA) U19 Basketball World Cup 2017 in Egypt, losing to the Italian side.
On Sunday, the Iranian squad, which had lost to the US team 48-108 in its Group D opener the previous day, went down to the Italian squad 45-64 at the Cairo Stadium Indoor Halls Complex.
Italy’s David Albright Okeke top scored with a game-high 15 points and 6 rebounds and Amirhossein Azari from Iran had 13 points and 4 rebounds
The Iran men's national under-19 basketball team is scheduled to play Angola on Tuesday in its third match.
The FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2017 kicked off in Cairo, Egypt, on July 1, and will conclude on July 9.
Iranian outfit has joined squads from Angola, Italy and the United States in the group stage of the tournament.
France, New Zealand, South Korea and Argentina form Group A in the event.
While the host nation Egypt, Germany, Lithuania and Puerto Rico compete in Group B, young Canadian sportsmen take on counterparts from Japan, Mali and Spain in Group C of the event.
