The Iran men's junior national basketball team has defeated Iraq in its second match at the 7th edition of the West Asia Basketball Association (WABA) Junior Championship.
The Iranians snatched a handsome victory on Friday, prevailing over their Iraqi counterparts 85-58 in a game played at Azadi Basketball Hall in western Tehran.
The Iranian basketball players started the first quarter in a convincing fashion, and made diverse attacks and blocks to outscore Iraq 27-14.
The second quarter played out much like the first, and the Persians tallied enough points to claim the first half 45-24.
The Iranian players were strong-minded not to relinquish the lead as the match went into the third quarter. They scored points to surge ahead, and eventually got a five-point lead and won the quarter 18-13.
In the final quarter, the Iranians mounted a series of attacks, and shot baskets to close it at 22-21.
Iran is scheduled to return to action on Saturday to play against Jordan.
The 7th edition of WABA Junior Championship started in Tehran, the Islamic Republic of Iran, on April 19, and will run through April 23, 2017.
The tournament has brought together national junior basketball teams from Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.
