Iranian professional basketball club Palayesh Naft Abadan has pulled off a victory at the preliminary round of the 2017 West Asian Basketball Association (WABA) Clubs Championship in Jordan, defeating Sareyyet Ramallah of Palestine.
Palayesh Naft Abadan outfit, which competes in the Iranian Basketball Super League, defeated the Palestinian club 69-58 in its opening match in the Jordanian capital city of Amman on Sunday.
Later in the day, Iran’s Petrochimi Bandar Imam slumped to the Lebanese club al-Riyadi 66-85.
Petrochimi performed outstandingly at the 2016 edition of WABA Clubs Championship and defeated al-Riyadi 70-68 in the final match to finish in the first position of the tournament.
The 2017 WABA Clubs Championship started in the Jordanian capital city of Amman on March 12, and will finish on March 14.
Iranian professional basketball club Palayesh Naft Abadan and Petrochimi Bandar Imam are drawn in Pool A along with Lebanese club al-Riyadi and Sareyyet Ramallah of Palestine.
Iran’s Chimidor club, Lebanese Sagesse basketball club and al-Mina'a basketball club of Iraq are pitted against each other in Pool B.
