Ireland’s Foreign Minister, Michael Martin, has condemned the escalation of Israeli bloodshed in war-wracked Gaza, especially against children and women, and demanded immediate action to stop the “violence and slaughter” in the besieged territory.
In a statement posted on his X account, Martin renewed his calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, expressing deep concern over the intensification of violence by the Israeli regime in Gaza, especially its attack on Kamal Adwan Hospital.
Martin said that he is extremely concerned by WHO reports that the Israeli regime has attacked the last functioning hospital in northern Gaza.
He called for an immediate ceasefire, release of captives, and “a surge of humanitarian aid” to the region.
The bilateral relationship between Ireland and Israel has been increasingly exacerbating since October 2023 and the inception of the occupying regime’s genocidal war against the Palestinian people.
Ireland raised the ire of the Israeli regime’s authorities after it recognized Palestine as “a sovereign and independent state” comprising the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and agreed to establish full diplomatic relations with Palestine.
Earlier this month, the Israeli regime decided to close its embassy in Dublin, saying, “Ireland has crossed every red line in its relations with Israel,” and calling Simon Harris, Ireland’s prime minister, “anti-Semitic.”
Ireland has taken “a more extreme stance than any other country” against Israel, claimed Dana Erlich, the Israeli regime’s ambassador in Dublin.
Harris “will not be responding to personalized and false attack,” and “remains focused on the horrific war crimes being perpetrated in Gaza,” said a spokesperson for the Irish prime minister.
Ireland has also said it will join South Africa’s genocide case against the Israeli regime in the International Court of Justice (ICJ). What is happening in Gaza now “represents the blatant violation of international humanitarian law on a mass scale,” said Martin at the time.
After the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Benyamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant for crimes against humanity and genocide, Harris declared that his country will detain these individuals if they travel to Ireland.
Since October 2023, the Israeli regime’s genocidal war on Gaza has claimed the lives of more than 45,000 and injured 107,000 individuals, most of whom are children and women.
