Marking martydom anniv.
Iranians are commemorating the fifth martyrdom anniversary of General Qassem Soleimani across the nation. Hundreds of thousands of people have flocked to the southeastern province of Kerman to pay homage to the country’s anti-terror icon. General Soleimani’ hometown and his burial site hosted a deluge of followers of the legendary commander. Commemorations and special events to remember General Soleimani are also being held in several other cities, including the capital Tehran. General Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps and his companions, including Iraqi commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis were assassinated in a US drone strike authorized by then-American President Donald Trump near Baghdad Airport on January 3, 2020. On Wednesday, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution hailed Martyr Soleimani for his unique role in the fight against terrorism and for strengthening the resistance front in the West Asia region.
US-Israel Gaza genocide
Another deadly day for Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip as the Israeli military presses ahead with its air and artillery strikes across the blockaded territory. At least 11 Palestinians, including children and women, were killed and several others injured after Israeli forces bombed tents housing the displaced people in al-Mawasi areas of southern Gaza, near Khan Yunis. A separate Israeli strike also targeted the town of Bani Suheila, killing at least two Palestinians. Casualties were also reported after regime forces targeted a group of civilians in the al-Shati refugee camp in western Gaza. This is as Gazans face hardships during the winter and rain-triggered floods. According to a Palestinian health official, another infant succumbed to the cold, bringing to eight the number of hypothermia-related deaths in Gaza. The Israeli genocide has killed more than 45,500 civilians so far and left nearly 108,400 others injured since October 2023.
New Israeli threat to Gazans
The Israeli minister of military affairs has threatened Palestinians in the Gaza Strip with intensified bombing and killing drive. In a statement, Israel Katz said Gaza will face unprecedented bombardments more severe than anything before. He said that the bombing and shelling will not stop until the Hamas resistance movement releases the Israeli captives and stops firing rockets at regime’s positions in the occupied territories. Katz has been beating the war drums ever since he was appointed as minister in November after his predecessor Yoav Gallant was ousted over disagreements with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
