Iran's martyred top anti-terror commander, General Qassem Soleimani, was one of the main figures of Islamic resistance against global arrogance and continues to serve as an inspiration for freedom seekers worldwide, says an official.
In an interview with the Press TV website, Hadi Tahan Nazif, a spokesperson for Iran's Constitutional Council, said the iconic Iranian military commander significantly contributed to strengthening the Axis of Resistance.
Thursday marks the fifth martyrdom anniversary of General Soleimani, the former commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force, who was assassinated in a drone strike near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.
Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy commander of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and Gen. Soleimani's comrade, was also martyred in the attack.
The cowardly terrorist attack, which was widely condemned, was ordered by then-US President Donald Trump and executed in collaboration with the Zionist regime.
Nazif stated that the martyred Iranian commander played an instrumental role in bolstering the resistance front by supporting various resistance movements across the region.
He also emphasized General Soleimani's significant role in confronting the forces of global arrogance and ultimately laying down his life for a greater cause, said the spokesperson of the Constitutional Council, a top body tasked with vetting elections.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, speaking at a gathering of the families of martyrs on Wednesday, lauded the sacrifices of Iran’s top anti-terror commander as "unique."
“Martyr Soleimani's constant strategy was to revive the resistance front. He always sought to revitalize the resistance,” the Leader remarked.
Echoing the Leader’s comments, Nazif said the martyred IRGC Quds Force commander possessed “insight and foresight, with the ability to accurately analyze regional and international issues."
He also underscored Soleimani’s critical role in combating and eliminating terrorist groups such as Daesh (ISIS) in the region.
"Martyr Soleimani played a very significant role in the fight against terrorist groups. Many international figures, including the leaders of resistance movements, have emphasized his vital role in combating terrorism," Nazif explained.
He further described Martyr Soleimani as a figure who established a school of thought of his own, emphasizing resistance against oppression and the defense of the oppressed people everywhere.
"Today, thanks to the Islamic Revolution and the efforts and struggles of figures such as Martyr Soleimani, resistance against oppression and the defense of the oppressed has evolved into a global school of thought," Nazif noted.
According to him, the life and martyrdom of Martyr Soleimani represent a profound legacy for the Iranian nation and freedom seekers around the globe.
Nazif also highlighted the late commander’s "central role" in defending the holy shrines in Iraq and Syria from Daesh and its affiliates.
