Israeli airstrike on Lebanon's army base kills soldier, injures 18 others
One Lebanese soldier has been killed and 18 others injured in an Israeli airstrike on an army base in southern Lebanon, the army said.
The regime’s airstrike targeted the army center in the town of Al-Amriyeh on the Al-Qalila-Tyre road in southern Lebanon on Sunday.
The attack caused severe damage to the facility, the Lebanese army said in a message on X.
Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati said in a statement that the regime’s aggression against the army base was “a direct and bloody message rejecting all efforts to reach a ceasefire.”
He said the attack would “bolster the Lebanese army's presence in the south.”
"This aggression is a matter for the international community, which is silent about what is happening to Lebanon.”
Meanwhile, an Israeli airstrike in central Beirut killed at least 20 people and wounded 66 others, according to Lebanon's Health Ministry.
The regime’s airstrikes have killed more than 3,500 people and displaced about 1.2 million people in Lebanon since last October.
Mikati also said that his government is committed to implementing UN resolution 1701, which ended a month-long war between Israel and Hezbollah by establishing a ceasefire and creating a buffer zone between the Litani River and Lebanon’s border with the occupied Palestinian territories back in 2006.
The prime minister urged the international community to assume responsibility in this matter.
He said Thursday that the army was preparing to bolster its presence in southern Lebanon, citing the need to defend Lebanon’s sovereignty in the face of Israel's aggression.
