Iran’s Navy chief Rear Admiral Shahram Irani says two new Iranian warships are set to sail soon, amid regional tensions sparked by Israeli aggressions.
“Sahand Destroyer is being prepared quickly to be deployed on a mission to secure the waters of the northern Indian Ocean after participating in major drills,” Irani told media on Friday.
"Zagros destroyer is the newest and most advanced destroyer in the Navy, designed for both combat and intelligence missions," he said.
The warship is equipped with a hangar for permanently carrying a helicopter, the commander said. "We are awaiting official orders to launch it."
The news of the delivery of the warships comes as Iranian armed forces repelled an Israeli aerial attack against the country last Saturday.
Tensions have been running high in the region since early October 2023, after the Israeli regime began a brutal two-front aggression that has killed more than 43,259 people in the Gaza Strip and at least 2,867 others in Lebanon so far.
Over the same period, the usurping regime has also assassinated several resistance leaders, including Hamas’s political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.
In support of Palestinians in Gaza, resistance groups have launched retaliatory attacks on Israeli targets and vowed to keep fighting until the Gaza onslaught ends.
In response to Israel’s barbaric acts of assassination against the resistance front’s top leaders, Iran carried out Operation True Promise 2 earlier last month.
Iran has said it is resolved to respond to the recent Israeli act of aggression against the country and will not abandon its rights.
It has warned the United States, which plays a pivotal role in supporting Israeli actions in destabilizing regional peace and security, to rein in the illegitimate regime.
