Iranian security forces have arrested the two terrorists involved in a deadly shooting attack on two police officers in the country’s southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan more than a year ago.
Provincial police chief Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Es’haqi said on Sunday that the arrest of the perpetrators of the terrorist attack was put high on the agenda of the local law enforcement forces following the martyrdom of Lieutenant Colonel Mohsen Poudineh and Lieutenant Ehsan Shahraki in Golshan County on March 10, 2023.
Es’haqi added that the two main elements behind the act of terror were arrested following an intricate operation, as the identity and whereabouts of the militants remained unknown.
He noted that the investigation team was finally tipped off on the hideout of the terrorists, and they were arrested in the southern part of Sistan and Baluchestan province.
They quickly confessed to their involvement in the armed clash that resulted in the martyrdom of the police officers.
The Iranian policemen lost their lives when armed terrorists opened fire on their vehicle as they were traveling along a road in Golshan County of Sistan and Baluchestan Province.
Sistan and Baluchestan, which borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, has long been the site of frequent clashes between Iranian security forces and Takfiri terrorists as well as drug traffickers.
Iran’s security forces have protected the border and managed to repel almost all assaults by foreign-backed terrorists.
The so-called Jaish al-Adl, based in Pakistan, has claimed responsibility for several terror attacks targeting both civilians and security forces in recent years in Sistan and Baluchestan.
