US-Israeli Gaza genocide
More death in Gaza as the Israeli military onslaught rages on across the besieged strip. The regime’s latest strikes targeted at least 20 tents belonging to displaced people in al-Mawasi near the southern city of Khan Yunis. So far 40 civilians have been killed and 60 injured in the Israeli massacre .The area had been declared by the regime as a "humanitarian safe zone." Israeli shelling near the Rafah border crossing also killed three civilians. In the northern Gaza City, at least 10 people, including women, were killed in attacks on two residential apartments. Another nine civilians lost their lives in Israeli airstrikes on Jabalia and Nuseirat refugee camps. The death toll from the US-Israeli genocide in Gaza since October 7 has risen to nearly 41,000. Nearly 95,000 have also been injured.
Israel rights violations
A senior UN official has expressed deep concern over a “dramatic deterioration” in conditions of Palestinians men, women and children in Israeli custody. Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Pramila Patten made the remarks following new UN reports on Israeli violence. She said sexual violence against Palestinian abductees could amount to “sexualized torture”. Patten said the torture includes widespread sexual slurs, threats of rape and gang rape, and photographing or filming of naked Palestinian abductees. She noted that such abhorrent acts not only constitute a grave violation of human rights but also undermine peace and stability in the region. The UN Special Representative called for independent investigations to bring all Israeli perpetrators to justice. Israel has significantly ramped up its abduction of Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank since the start of the Gaza genocide in October 7.
Israel ICJ genocide case
Reports say Israel is using the US Congress to press South Africa to drop its genocide case against the regime in the International Court of Justice. Israeli officials want US lawmakers to make clear to South Africa that pursuing the case will "come with a heavy price". That includes suspending Washington’s trade relations with Pretoria and pushing legislation against South Africa on the state and federal levels. In late December, South Africa filed a case at the ICJ, arguing that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. Several countries have since joined the lawsuit. The top UN court has so far issued provisional orders, including calling on Israel to prevent any act of genocide in Gaza. South Africa has until late October to give the top UN court its arguments for continuing the case against Israel.
