Russia rejects 'baseless' US claims of producing fake vote videos

The Russian embassy in Washington has rejected “baseless” claims that the Kremlin is orchestrating the production of fake videos linked to the 2024 US presidential election.

With just a couple of days left to the presidential race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, a video emerged on social media on Thursday purportedly showing an immigrant voter in Georgia claiming to have voted multiple times.

The immigrant man in the 20-second video claims that he and others shown in the footage are from Haiti, arrived in the United States six months ago, obtained US citizenship within that time, and are now voting for Harris in multiple Georgia counties.

The viral video has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times on X and other social media platforms.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) claimed on Friday that the vote video was fake and was fabricated by “Russian influence actors.”

In a statement posted on Telegram on Saturday, the Russian embassy said, “We have noticed the statement of the US intelligence services accusing our country of disseminating fabricated videos about electoral violations in the United States. We view these allegations as baseless.”

The claim, the embassy said, represented an effort by the FBI and other federal agencies, four days before Tuesday’s elections, to reverse predictions of pre-election and post-election violence over claims of election fraud.
