Rouhollah Rostami clinches gold in men's 80kg para powerlifting at Paris Paralympics, earning the fourth gold and 20th medal for Iran in the competition, besides breaking the world and paralympic records.
On Friday, Rostami lifted a mighty 242kg, while China's Gu Xiaofei took the silver medal with 225kg and Iraq's Rasool Mohsin claimed the bronze with 215kg.

The lift set the world record at one kilogram higher than the previous one, which had been registered by Rostami, himself, in Thailand in 2021.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian congratulated Rostami for winning the gold medal at the Paris Paralympics.
"Our dear wrestler, Ruhollah Rostami, you did wonders in the Paralympics and raised the proud flag of Iran. Congratulations on winning the gold medal," he wrote.
So far, shot putter Amir Hossein Alipour, female shooter Sareh Javanmardi, and javelin thrower Saeid Afrooz have likewise bagged golds for Iran in the marquee event.

Shot putters Zafar Zaker and Mahdi Olad, the country’s mixed compound para archery team, para archer Fatemeh Hemmati, club thrower Parastoo Habibi, sprinter Hajar Safarzadeh, discus thrower Hassan Bajoulvand, javelin thrower Ali Pirouj, para taekwondo practitioner Zahra Rahimi, and para judoka Meysam Banitaba have earned slivers for the country.
The Iranian team’s bronze medals have been earned by Alireza Bakht and Hamed Haqshenas in para taekwondo, Alireza Mokhtari and Ali Asghar Javanmardi in the shot put contest, Mohammad-Reza Arab Ameri in para archery, and Mohsen Bakhtiar in para powerlifting.
