FM: Iran’s response to Israeli assassination of Haniyeh in Tehran ‘definitive’
Iran’s foreign minister has described as “definitive” the country’s response to Israel’s assassination of senior Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh last month.
In a phone call with his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani on Sunday, Abbas Araghchi said the response is “definitive” but it “will be measured and well calculated.”
The top Iranian diplomat added that, unlike Israel, Iran is not seeking escalation but at the same time “we do not fear escalation.”

Earlier, Araghchi also had a telephone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud to discuss bilateral and regional issues.
Both diplomats talked about the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza and regional spillover.
They called for ramping up efforts to stop Israeli crimes in Gaza and supplying humanitarian aid to the Palestinian territory.
In a post on his X account on Sunday, Araqchi said that he held separate phone talks with his Egyptian, Turkish and Saudi Arabian counterparts over the past two days.
In another post, the Iranian foreign minister said he received phone calls from his Azerbaijani and Armenian counterparts in the past two days as they extended their congratulations to him over his appointment.
On Friday, Araghchi told the United Kingdom and France that it reserves the right to punish the Israeli regime for its "unforgivable" crime of assassinating Haniyeh.
Haniyeh, the Palestinian resistance movement’s Political Bureau chief, was assassinated in a targeted killing operation in Tehran on July 31.
He was in the Iranian capital to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian.
