Bangladesh to form interim govt.
People take to the streets of Bangladesh and the UK to celebrate the end of PM Sheikh Hasina's 15-year rule after more than a month of deadly protests. General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Bangladesh's army chief, says Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned and fled the capital. He called for calm and announced that an interim government will run the country. The general added that the country’s president and opposition parties have been consulted over the issue. Earlier, protesters stormed the prime minister’s official residence in Dhaka angered by the violence they faced during nationwide anti-government rallies on Sunday. More than 90 people were killed and hundreds injured. 20 people were also killed in Dhaka on Monday. Bangladesh has witnessed unrest since last month, when a crackdown on a student protest over a job quota plan left over 200 people dead.
