At least 33 Red Crescent employees have been killed in Gaza since Israel began its relentless aggression against the Strip nearly eight months ago.

In a post on its X account on Saturday, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said Mohammed Jihad Abed, an employee in the Disaster Risk Management Department, was killed when occupation forces bombed his home the night before in the southern Gaza city of Rafah.

"This brings the total number of PRCS members killed since the beginning of the aggression on Gaza to 33, including 19 who were killed while performing their humanitarian duties," it wrote.

The Palestinian Red Crescent emphasized that the Israeli regime "intentionally targeted healthcare workers."

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Palestine Red Crescent Society said two of its employees were killed while on duty after Israeli forces “deliberately bombed” their ambulance in Tal al-Sultan area, west of Rafah.

Israel launched the war on Gaza on October 7, 2023 after Palestinian resistance groups carried out a surprise retaliatory operation into the occupied territories.

The Israeli regime's brutal attacks on 160 healthcare facilities in the Gaza Strip led to the closure of 55 health centers and 33 hospitals.

At least 36,379 Palestinians, mostly children and women, have been killed and 82,407 people wounded in the war that Israel began on October 7, 2023 following a retaliatory operation by the Palestinian territory’s resistance movements.

Vast swathes of Gaza lay in ruins as the regime has been enforcing a near-total siege on the coastal territory, which has reduced the flow of foodstuffs, medicine, electricity, and water into the Palestinian territory into a trickle.

Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which in its latest rulings has ordered Tel Aviv to immediately halt its operation in Rafah, where more than 1 million Palestinians had sought refuge from the war.
