Demo held outside South Africa’s Supreme Court march for ICJ suit against Israel

Crowds of Pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered outside the High Supreme Court in Cape Town on Thursday to voice their support for South Africa's 'genocide' case against Israel in The Hague.

Footage shows protesters, some wearing court dress, waving Palestinian flags and holding placards bearing slogans such as, 'Boycott Apartheid Israel' and 'Stop the Genocide'.

"We are gathering here today as progressive organizations, within the legal fraternity to be able to show support to our government as well as the legal team in The Hague," a demonstrator said.

"Why did we all have to wait until thousands and tens of thousands of children, men, women, the elderly and people living with disabilities were dying,” added a second.

Last month, Pretoria lodged a case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the highest court of the United Nations, asserting that Israel breached its obligations under the Genocide Convention, to which both nations are parties.

The submitted case alleges that Israel's actions in Gaza aim to bring about the destruction of a substantial part of the Palestinian national, racial, and ethnic group. Pretoria is seeking 'provisional measures,' including a halt to the Israeli regime's military campaign.
