Terror attack in Iran

At least one person has been killed and seven others have been wounded in a terrorist attack at a shrine in Iran’s southern city of Shiraz. Two assailants, both foreign nationals, opened fire at an entrance gate of Shah Cheragh Shrine. One of the terrorists has been arrested while a manhunt has been launched for the other. The Daesh terrorist group has claimed responsibility. Shah Cheragh Shrine was also targeted by another Daesh terrorist attack last October. That left 15 people, including women and children, dead. The terrorist died of the wounds he sustained during clashes with security forces and two of his accomplices were executed last month after being sentenced to death.

Taiwan VP’s US visit

China has strongly condemned the US for arranging a visit by Taiwanese Vice President, William Lai. Beijing says it will take resolute and forceful measures to safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry says Beijing is firmly opposed to any form of official exchanges between the US and Taiwan. It also labeled Lai a "downright troublemaker". Lai is a vocal separatist and a candidate in Taiwan's presidential elections next year. He is officially making transit stops in the US en route to and from Paraguay. China claims Taiwan as its own territory. Washington does not have formal diplomatic relations with the island, but maintains close ties with the territory and is its most important international source of weapons.

Russia-Ukraine war

Russia says it has repelled more cross-border drone attacks in the west of the country. It said three drones were shot down in the Belgorod region and another over the Kursk region. No casualties or damage were reported. Kiev has increased drone attacks on Russian territory in recent weeks, targeting areas as far as Moscow. Russia has been carrying out drone attacks of its own, including on the capital Kiev. In another development, Russian forces shelled two villages in the southern Ukrainian region of Kherson. Ukrainian authorities say the shelling resulted in the death of seven civilians, including a baby. Russia has previously denied targeting civilians. Kiev reclaimed the western part of the Kherson region last November.
