American political analyst and activist Myles Hoenig says Washington’s unipolar vision of the world is no longer realistic as Russia and China are seriously countering its dominance.
Hoenig, a former Green Party candidate for Congress, made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Sunday in response to the comments of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Putin said on Sunday that Russia is opposed to the emergence of a unipolar world that revolves around Washington’s interests.
He said Russia is striving to create a multipolar world rather than one that is centered around the US.
The Russian leader suggested that Washington's “satellite states” are also well aware of these “egoistic” intentions. However, still they have chosen to turn a blind eye to this due to “various reasons connected first and foremost with huge dependence in the economic sphere and defense,” he added.
Some of Washington’s allies also see confrontation with Russia as a unifying cause, eclipsing any differences between them and the US, Putin noted.
“Ever since the fall of the Berlin Wall and the breakup of the Soviet Union the US believed it was the only world power in existence. Never mind China. It has thus acted as if it were the arbiter of international law, common decency, and of course, the American way of life- for the entire world. This arrogant exceptionalism has also exposed its hypocrisy, not unnoticed by the rest of the planet’s inhabitants,” said Hoenig.
“In Washington, everything is seen through its own eyes and nothing it does can or should be questioned. The US abhors the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, as it should. Yet turns a blind eye to its role in ‘poking the bear’, creating the conditions which prompted Putin to invade,” he added.
“What the US fears the most, and is being borne out in reality, is that the US is losing its standing in the world. We see train derailments possibly comparable to the Chornobyl disaster. We still don’t know the extent of the harm to people, wildlife, and the environment. Yet with the trillions of dollars, we have spent to maintain a dying empire, China uses even less money to build a nationwide rail system, connecting far away towns to the major hubs. The US runs on diesel. China runs on electricity,” he noted.
“The US dollar is in decline. We possibly overthrew the Iraqi government because Saddam Hussein had plans to move out of the dollar’s orbit in conjunction with oil sales. We overthrew the stable government of Libya over its overtures to create an African currency. And with BRICS, the US is seeing that it no longer holds the mantle of the most capitalist nation on earth, as this new capitalist conglomerate, which is growing, is supplanting the US in development of its own countries and that of less developed countries, making the US second rate,” Hoenig said.
“Whatever the motives of the Russian government are, it is correct in assessing the US’s posture of claiming to live in a unipolar world, with itself as its head. Russia being a member of BRICS certainly counters that narrative,” the analyst said.
In an interview with Rossiya-1 TV channel aired on Sunday, Putin said the US-led NATO was an indirect accomplice to the crimes committed by Ukraine, as the West keeps supplying the ex-soviet country with lethal armaments.
Putin said that Moscow should take into account the nuclear potential of not only the US, but all other NATO countries as well, as the alliance considers Moscow’s strategic defeat its key goal.
"In today's conditions, when all the leading NATO countries have declared their main goal as inflicting a strategic defeat on us, so that our people suffer as they say, how can we ignore their nuclear capabilities in these conditions?" Putin told the state television, according to TASS.
Putin said if Moscow did not interfere with the policy of Western countries, the fate of the people of Russia could change dramatically, and above all, the fate of the Russian people.
Putin also accused the West and NATO of taking part in the Ukraine conflict by donating arms to the country, and also targeted the West for its sinister plans to break up and disintegrate Russia.
