Plights of Palestinian patients

A Palestinian rights group has condemned Israel over the death of a six-year-old patient in Gaza, who was denied access to medical care in al-Quds for months. The Gaza-based rights group al Mezan says the six-year-old died on Wednesday, after he waited for Israeli authorities for nearly eight months to approve his exit permits. The rights group says delaying access to necessary medical care for a toddler for so many months is another grave rights violation by the regime. The group called on the international community to take measures to end Israel’s blockade on the Gaza Strip and its violations of international law. Al Mezan says at least four patients, including three children, have died following Israel’s rejection of requests for exit permits or the regime’s delay in issuing those permits this year.

Condemning US drone flights

The Taliban have slammed the US for deploying drones into Afghanistan, calling them a clear invasion of the country. The Taliban official urged Washington to stop the "illegal" flights. He also accused Pakistan of providing airspace for US drones to enter his country, demanding an end to the move. Mujahid’s comments come less than a month after US President Joe Biden announced the killing of al-Qaeda chief, Ayman al-Zawahiri, in a drone strike in Kabul. Taliban officials have neither confirmed Zawahiri's presence in Afghanistan nor acknowledged his death. Mujahid says they're still investigating the US claims. Pentagon’s documents show that US drone strikes have been marked by "deeply flawed intelligence" and resulted in thousands of civilian deaths in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

Libya clashes

The death toll from the latest clashes between rival armed groups in the Libyan capital has risen to 32.  Tripoli’s worst fighting in two years has also left over 150 people injured. After three days of violence, the security situation has eased, with calm returning to the capital for now. However, the fighting has raised fears of a major nationwide conflict between forces loyal to Prime Minister Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah and his challenger, Fathi Bashagha. Dbeibah's government was installed in Tripoli last year as part of a UN-led peace process to lead a transition to elections. On the other side, Bashagha was appointed by the Tobruk-based parliament as prime minister in March. Libya has been in turmoil since 2011 when longtime ruler Muammar Qaddafi was overthrown in a NATO-backed war.
