Iran produces tonnes of agricultural products annually, which it also exports to destinations abroad.
The food industry is also heavily dependent on this sector as it plays a critical role in the country's food security and national economy. Iran has a total area of 165 million hectares of land; of this amount, 50 million hectares are arable farmlands.
Moreover, some 21 thousand hectares are dedicated to greenhouse farming. Iran's agriculture makes up around eight percent of the national GDP. Plus, it employs one-fifth of the country's entire workforce. The country's agro-food products also accounted for around 20 percent of the country's non-oil exports in 2020.
