According to figures from the National Geological Survey and Mineral Exploration Agency, the national mining sector, is one of Iran's key industries, as the country is one of the top ten mineral-rich nations globally.
Roughly 7% of global mineral reserves can be found in Iran, making it one of the most important mineral producers in the world. Official figures show the country has around 60 billion tonnes of proven mineral reserves. The mining ministry estimates the total production value in this sector to be over 700 billion dollars.
Despite its enormous riches, Iran still struggles to operate its mining sector at full capacity. There are several reasons for this. One is a lack of necessary machinery and equipment to expand this key sector. So, the government is focusing efforts on supporting knowledge-based manufacturers to research and produce new machines as part of areas for development.
