Since 2013, knowledge-based companies and startups have grown over 140-fold to 7,000 active units today. These firms make thousands of specialized technologies that have massively reduced the country's dependency on foreign imports.
Moreover, these businesses have increased developments in the production of medical devices, energy, agriculture, ICT, aircraft maintenance, mining, petrochemicals, biotechnology, and so much more. Whats more, exports of knowledge-based products raked in over $5 billion in revenues last year alone according to the National Innovation Fund.
Based on statistics from the Vice Presidential Office for Science and Technology, presently, Irans knowledge-based ecosystem accounts for more than 3% of the countrys GDP, though this figure is projected to grow in the coming years.
