Iranian knowledge-based companies

The government has been shifting more and more towards a knowledge-based economy that thrives on research. So, knowledge spillover plays a big role in entrepreneurship, especially in cross-discipline research.

Having labs in the country dedicated to advancing specialized research is very important. These types of knowledge-based companies help expand products in the market that may have been previously imported.

In fact, in 2010, the government passed laws promoting and supporting knowledge-based companies as part of a legal framework. This has paved the way for boosting innovation and scientific progress leading to many social and economic advantages. In 2013, there were only 50 knowledge-based firms and startups.

That figure has grown over the years to well over 6,000 companies according to the vice presidency office for Science and Technology. The National Innovation Fund says tech firms and knowledge-based companies raked in over $5-billion in revenues last year. Some 40 knowledge-based companies are listed in the stock market as well.
