Protesters demonstrated on a rainy Friday (October 29) in Glasgow as attendees queued to register for the COP26 United Nations climate summit which kicks off on Sunday (October 31).

Protesters with 'Ocean Rebellion' called attention to oil spills and damage done to the world's oceans by fossil fuel companies, featuring characters with heads made of petrol canisters and cleaners to 'greenwash' for them.

"Shell is hell" protesters said, also calling out oil giants Exxon, BP and Petrobras for criticism. 'Greenwashing' describes initiatives that are sold as environmentally-friendly but have little or no real impact.

At another protest, campaigner Lewis Coenen-Rowe said it was vital to break the links between global finance and the fossil fuel industry, and put money towards adapting to the effects of climate change in developing countries.

Tens of thousands of attendees are expected to attend the summit at the Scottish Event Campus in central Glasgow from October 31 - November 12.
