Two US lawmakers have staged a protest after their America First rally is canceled for the third time in the in the state of California.
Republican Reps. Matt Gaetz (Fla.) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.) took part in the Free Speech Peaceful Protest after a third venue canceled their speech.
“We won’t back down,” Greene told the crowd of 100 people gathering outside Riverside City Hall. “And here’s what we’re going to do, America. You’ve got two members of Congress right here, and we refuse to be canceled because we won’t let you be canceled.”
Gaetz also vowed before the crowd to continue fighting for their them at all different levels.
“They may try to cancel us online. They may try to pursue us in real life. They may try to shut down our venues. But we will take this fight to them in the courts, in the halls of Congress and, if necessary, in the streets!” the Florida lawmaker said. “Do you know why they’re so afraid of Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene? Because we fight for you, not them.”
The latest cancellation was announced by the city of Anaheim, which followed similar measures by two other venues fearing divisiveness promoted by the two controversial GOP figures.
“We as a city shared our public safety concerns with the operator and the operator shares the concerns,” Anaheim spokesman Mike Lyster said, according to The Orange County Register.
Conservatives frequently slam the “cancel culture” promoted by liberals, arguing it is meant to pursue their leftist agenda.
“The radical left wants to threaten you, they want to harass you, they want to target you, and they want to cancel you,” Greene said, adding that former US President Donald Trump “showed us America First policies. And these are the policies that are going to save our country and stop the Communists that are trying to destroy our freedom!”
