Former US president Donald Trump's ex-lawyer Rudy Giuliani has been suspended from practicing law in Washington for allegedly false 2020 election-fraud claims in support of Trump.
"ORDERED pursuant to DC Bar Rule XI, § 11(d), that the respondent is suspended from the practice of law in the District of Columbia pending final disposition of this proceeding, effective on the date of entry of this order," the District of Columbia Court of Appeals said on Wednesday.
The court documents said Giuliani's suspension in Washington will be pending the outcome to his recent license suspension in the state of New York over his role in pushing claims about voter fraud and trying to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
Giuliani's New York law license was suspended last month for the allegedly false claims.
The former New York city mayor was disbarred on accusations that he made “false and misleading” claims to “courts, lawmakers and the public at large” while he helped Trump challenge Joe Biden's victory in last November's presidential election.
The court rebuked him for allegedly inflaming “tensions that bubbled over into the events of January 6, 2021, in this nation's Capitol.”
Giuliani helped lead Trump’s legal challenge to last November election won by President Joe Biden, arguing that the vote had been rife with massive fraud. The legal challenges were thrown out in US courts, in many cases based on technicalities.
US Democrats, such as US Representative Ted Lieu (D-California), had lobbied for Giuliani to be disbarred.
