US President Donald Trump's personal attorney has contacted Russian agents to obtain intelligence to help him win the 2020 presidential election.

US intelligence agencies had warned the White House that Trump’s personal lawyer Rudolph W. Giuliani had made contact with Russian intelligence agents to obtain information about former Vice President Joe Biden.

US intelligence agencies warned the White House that Giuliani was interacting with people tied to Russian intelligence during his December 2019 trip to Ukraine.

The warning was based on multiple sources, including intercepted communications that proved Giuliani was gathering information that he thought would expose corrupt acts by Biden and his son Hunter.

Giuliani had raised concerns in the US intelligence community that the Russians would feed misinformation to the US president.

During his trip to Ukraine to gather dirt on the Bidens, Giuliani had reportedly obtained Hunter Biden's emails and intimate photos.

However, Giuliani claimed the information was obtained from a laptop containing the emails and photos that had been simply abandoned in a Delaware repair shop and the shop owner had later reached out to Giuliani’s lawyer and gave him the data.

White House National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien met with Trump in a private conversation to warn him that any information Giuliani had gathered in Ukraine should be considered contaminated by Russia, media reported.

The message was, “Do what you want to do, but your friend Rudy has been worked by Russian assets in Ukraine,” media said.

media added that the US Intelligence officials wanted “to protect the president from coming out and saying something stupid,” particularly since he was facing impeachment over his own efforts to force Ukraine into incriminating the Bidens.

However, O’Brien reportedly emerged from their meeting doubting whether Trump understood the case. The National Security Advisor said Trump had “shrugged his shoulders” at his warning and dismissed concern about Giuliani’s dirt gathering by saying, “That’s Rudy.”

In a similar case, Trump's former National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn, was charged for contact with Russian agents.

Justice Department's special counsel Robert Mueller had charged Flynn with “willfully and knowingly” making “false, fictitious and fraudulent statements” to the court investigators to conceal his contact with Russian agents.

The former FBI director Mueller, in the investigation regarding whether Trump’s election campaign had colluded with Moscow to try to influence the 2016 presidential election, brought charges against 34 people and three companies.
