Turkey mobilised humanitarian aid on Wednesday, August 5, for victims of an explosion at a warehouse in the Lebanese capital that killed at least 135 people.
A Turkish government plane carrying crates of humanitarian aid, as well as doctors and search and rescue teams, took off from Turkey's capital Ankara late on Wednesday.
The kits included personal protective equipment along with medical aid and other supplies, the head of Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management, Mehmet Gulluoglu, told Reuters.
More than 5,000 people were injured in Tuesday's explosion at Beirut port, Health Minister Hamad Hassan said, and up to 250,000 were left without homes fit to live in after shockwaves smashed building facades, sucked furniture out into streets and shattered windows miles inland.
