Iran has called for action in defense of Palestinian women amid Israel's genocidal war in Gaza, as the world marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei posted the call on his X social media account on Sunday night as the Israeli regime has increased its barbarity against Palestinian women and children.

He said the International occasion is a reminder of the extreme Israeli violence Palestinian women and girls have been facing for decades.

Baghaei described the unprecedented violence waged against female Palestinians in Gaza where tens of thousands of women and girls are brutally killed and maimed.

He added that starvation and repeated forced displacement are other miseries mothers and girls have been grappling with in Gaza since October last year.

The UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR) says women and children comprise nearly 70 percent of those killed in the Gaza Strip during Israel’s campaign of genocide in the besieged Palestinian territory.

The office published the figures in a 32-page report that covers the six months from November 2023 to April 2024.

About 80 percent of the victims were killed in residential buildings, out of which 44 percent were children and 26 percent women, the report said.

Most of the verified deaths in Gaza were children between the ages of five and nine.

The youngest victim whose death was verified by UN monitors was a one-day-old boy, and the oldest was a 97-year-old woman, the report said.

Since October 2023, the Gaza death toll has risen to 44,200 Palestinians with more than 104,500 others injured, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

The Israeli regime which has waged war on Gaza and Lebanon faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former war minister Yoav Gallant for their war crimes and crimes against humanity.
