Champions League: Barcelona 3-1 Borussia Dortmund

Over football news, Barcelona have advanced to the knockout stages of the Champions League as group winners after defeating Borussia Dortmund 3-1 at Camp Nou.

Barcelona took the lead just before the half hour mark when Lionel Messi teed up Luis Suarez to fire a low shot home. Messi and Suarez also combined 4 minutes later for the 2nd goal but this time it was the Argentine who finished off the move by slotting into the corner.

Messi turned provider again for Barcelona’s 3rd goal, sliding a perfect pass into the box for Antoine Griezmann to convert in the 67th minute. Jadon Sancho pulled one back for Dortmund in the 77th minute with an impressive strike into the top corner. But that proved to be a mere consolation for the visitors as Barcelona saw out the game to stay at the helm of Group F with 11 points while Dortmund are 3rd on 7.

Liverpool, meanwhile, will have to wait to secure their progression to the next round as they were held to a 1-all draw by Napoli at Anfield. Napoli struck 1st as Dries Mertens volleyed into the corner in the 21st minute after latching onto a long ball over the top.

However, that was canceled out in the 65th minute thanks to a powerful and precise header by Deyan Lovern into the right corner. Liverpool pushed for a winner, which proved elusive, but they remain in control of their group with 10 points while Napoli are one point adrift in 2nd place.
