The Iran men’s national under-21 volleyball team has kept its winning streak to secure a berth in the semifinal round of the 2018 Asian Men's Volleyball Cup, also known as the 2018 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Cup for Men, in Chinese Taipei.
On Saturday, the Iranian side troubled Vietnam with its advantage in high blocking and thundering attacking, and downed the Southeast Asian squad in a comfortable three-setter (25-19, 25-14 and 25-19) at the University of Taipei (Tianmu) Gymnasium.
Pourya Yali led Iran with 16 points, including 14 attacks from 28 attempts. Captain Amirhossein Esfandiar chipped in 16 points as well.
“Because I play the position opposite, the only reason that I am on the court is to get as more points as I can,” Yali said after the match.
The Iran men’s national under-21 volleyball team will take a two-day rest before contesting in a semi-final fixture on Tuesday.
The 2018 Asian Men's Volleyball Cup started on August 8, and will wrap up on August 15, 2018.
