The Iran men’s national under-20 volleyball team has proudly marched into the final showdown of the 2018 Asian Men's U20 Volleyball Championship after it overcame the Thai side in a semifinal fixture.
On Friday evening, the young Iranian sportsmen notched up a 3-1 victory in the Bahraini capital city of Manama, amid fight back from their Southeast Asian opponents to find a way in the title game.
The Iranians got off to a strong start, and could open the scoring early into the match. They mounted a string of attacks and could take the first set 25-14.
The Iranians were resolute not to let the opposite team fulfill its dream of featuring in the final. They won the second set 25-18.
The Thai volleyball players, however, came from behind in the third set and managed to clinch it by 25 points to 15.
The Iranian squad responded, and regained in the final set. It went on accumulating points and finally claimed the decider 25-14.
The Iran men’s national under-20 volleyball team will play the final against South Korea, which routed Iraq 3-0 (25-17, 25-16 and 25-22) in straight sets to advance to the men’s final.
The 2018 Asian Men's U20 Volleyball Championship started on July 21, and will run through July 28, 2018.
The top two teams of the tournament will qualify for the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Men's U21 World Championship as Asian representatives.
