The Iranian junior national freestyle wrestling team has produced great performances at the Junior Asian Wrestling Championships in India to take the title at the conclusion of the prestigious continental sports event.
The Iranian wrestlers collected nine (five gold and four bronze) medals and 189 points to win the top honors.
Athletes from India racked up 173 points to rank second, and were followed by Uzbeks who notched 128 points.
Reza Mohsen Alijanzadeh-Jouybari downed his South Korean opponent 6-3 in the first round of the 57-kilogram weight category. He lost to a contestant from the Netherlands 5-6 in his second bout though.
Alijanzadeh-Jouybari then prevailed over a wrestler from Mongolia 5-0 and advanced to the repechage round, where he overpowered his Turkemn rival 11-0 and won the bronze medal.
In the 65-kilogram division, Amirhossein Azim Maghsoudi earned a bronze medal for Iran after downing his Mongolian opponent 5-2.
Amirhossein Morteza Gholi Kavousi snatched a gold medal for Iran at the sports tournament after he could overcome Vishal Kaliramana, a competitor from India, 10-7 in the 70-kilogram's final encounter.
Moreover, Ali Bakhtiar Savadkouhi overwhelmed his Kyrgyz rival 11-1 in the 74-kilogram weight class, and earned a bronze medal.
Iranian freestyle wrestlers Sajjad Saberali Gholami, Abbas Ali Foroutanrami, Sajjad Gholamhossein Azizi and Amir Nader Yari struck four gold medals in the 79-kilogram, 92-kilogram, 97-kilogram and 125-kilogram weight categories respectively.
Seyed Sajjad Seyed Mehdi Seyedi also grabbed a bronze medal in the 86-kilogram class.
The Asian Junior Championships kicked off on July 17, and ran through July 22, 2018.
