UWW adds retired Iranian wrestler Mahdizadeh to Hall of Fame

The United World Wrestling (UWW) has added the name of retired Iranian freestyle wrestler Mansour Savadabadi Mahdizadeh to its Hall of Fame.

The international governing body for the sport of amateur wrestling, in a letter addressed to the Islamic Republic of Iran Wrestling Federation (IRIWF), announced that the 79-year-old has been inducted into the list.

The UWW further noted that Savadabadi Mahdizadeh will be honored during a ceremony in the Hungarian capital city of Budapest on May 17.

Savadabadi Mahdizadeh clinched the 79-kilogram title in the 1961 FILA Wrestling World Championships in Yokohama, Japan.

He was crowned in the 87-kilogram weight category during the 1962 Toledo and 1965 Manchester world contests as well.

The veteran Iranian wrestler earned a bronze in the 87-kilogram section of the 1963 FILA Wrestling World Championships.

He received gold medal of the 97-kilogram category during the 1966 Asian Games in the Thai capital city of Bangkok.

Savadabadi Mahdizadeh competed in the 1960, 1964 and 1968 Olympics with the best result of fourth place in 1964.
