The Islamic Republic of Iran will host the next edition of Karun Cup Open International Chess Tournament in mid-February.
Head of Khuzestan Chess Association, Abdul-Amir Khatibzadeh said on Sunday that the tournament will be held in the southwestern Iranian city of Ahvaz, located 834 kilometers southwest of the capital Tehran, and will bring together some 400 chess players from seven world countries.
Khatibzadeh added that the contests will be staged in three categories of A, B and C, and Iranian athletes finishing atop the podiums will be picked as new members of Iran men’s and women’s national chess teams.
He stressed that Khuzestan Chess Association will do its utmost to host the forthcoming chess competition in the best possible form.
