Young Iranian chess players have ended in style their campaign at Asian Junior Chess Championships 2017 in the country’s south-central city of Shiraz, and managed to collect three medals, including two silver ones, at the continental sporting event.
On Tuesday, Iran’s International Master Masoud Mosadeghpour took part in the Open Rapid event of the competitions, and garnered 5.5 points to finish in the second place, the Chess Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran website reported.
Minh Tran Tuan, a contestant from Vietnam, racked up the highest number of six points and won the title.
Iran’s Mersad Khodashenas rounded off the podium, and landed in the third place overall.
In girls’ division, Sharma Isha from India stood on top of the podium with six points followed by Iran’s Anousha Mahdian, who accumulated five points to be named the vice champion. Guddanti Harshita of India ranked third.
The Asian Juniors Chess Championships 2017 kicked off in Shiraz, south-central Iran, on May 1 and will run through May 11, 2017.
The tournament is under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation (ACF) and the World Chess Federation (FIDE).
It is governed by the general regulations for Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) competitions. Trophies and certificates will be awarded to the top three players in each category.
