Russian chess grandmaster Anton Demchenko has claimed the title at the conclusion of the second edition of Paytakht Cup International Chess Festival A in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The 30-year-old sportsman, who holds the 2649th spot in the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) rankings, won the tournament with seven points out of nine matches.
Iran’s 17-year-old grandmaster Parham Maghsoodloo came second, and Ukraine’s grandmaster Bernadskiy Vitaliy finished in the third place.
The second edition of Paytakht Cup International Chess Festival A kicked off in the Iranian capital city of Tehran on October 24, and finished on November 1, 2017.
A total of 430 chess players from Iran and 15 from other countries participated in the nine-day competition.
