Fourteen people died of asphyxiation when a massive fire ripped through one of the popular night hangouts in Mumbai early Friday, which according to the local police happened due to fire safety negligence.

The blaze occurred shortly after midnight at the '1 Above' pub on the third floor of a four-story building in central Mumbai, after the shed made of bamboo and tarpaulin caught fire. The fire soon spread to other restaurants, including the Mojo Bistro pub, witnesses said.
