The Islamic Republic of Iran Handball Federation (IRIHF) has named Slovenian handball coach Borut Maček as the head coach of Iran men's national handball team to guide the squad at the 2018 Asian Men's Handball Championship.
The 2018 Asian Men's Handball Championship, which will be the 18th edition of the tournament, will be held in the South Korean capital city of Seoul from January 18 to 28 next year.
The tournament acts as the Asian qualifying tournament for the 2019 World Men's Handball Championship.
Iran men's national handball team is pitted against Iraq and Japan in Group A of the preliminary round of the 2018 Asian Men's Handball Championship.
Australia is drawn in Group B and has joined Bahrain, Oman and Uzbekistan.
Bangladesh, India, the United Arab Emirates and South Korea are in Group C.
Group D consists of China, New Zealand, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
Maček first took charge of Iran men's national handball team in 2010.
