The Iran men's national handball team has put in poor performance at the 12th edition of Seoul Cup Handball in South Korea, and claimed the third spot at the end of the international competition.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Iranian squad, which had lost to Tunisia 23-30 in its opening match against Tunisia the previous day, slumped to a 22-33 defeat against the hosts at SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium in the South Korean capital.
The 12th edition of Seoul Cup Handball started in South Korea on August 13, and finished on August 15, 2017.
South Korean head coach Cho Young-shin had described this year’s edition of the Seoul Cup as a good test for the team with some new faces.
“By facing Tunisia and Iran, we should get some valuable experience ahead of next year's Asian Championships and the Asian Games,” Cho said prior to the start of the tournament.
The Seoul Cup Handball was created in 1993 to commemorate the South Korean women's team's Olympic gold medals in 1988 and 1992. The tournament only featured the women's teams and expanded to include the men's teams in 2015. Only the men's event was contested this year.
